^Be sure to give them a follow, awesome stuff.

Planning to do some more detailed sculpting, but I have the base model all in place now:

"Stylized Character" Sculpting (WIP)

Work In Progress / 05 January 2021

Practicing some stylized planar/structure sculpting on this idea I had for a character.

I started with this basemesh (good stuff, I highly recommend the purchase): https://www.artstation.com/marketplace/p/KpjJ/stylized-male-basemesh?utm_source=artstation&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=homepage&utm_term=marketplace

"Chicken Plushie" Sculpting

Work In Progress / 30 August 2020

Loving the new cloth dynamics in ZBrush! What a game changer. Making a cute little chicken plushie for fun. Going to paint fabric and stitches in Substance, then add some XGen fluff and probably do a nice Arnold render on it.

Remaining Weapon Texturing Needs

Work In Progress / 16 December 2018

I've been working on texturing this weekend! Here's my thought process of what's left to be done:

  • Overall weathering, with attention to areas of roughness where it's held or touched a lot and a variation of paint thickness
  • Shadows/highlights
  • Detailing:
    • Safety
    • Laser/lighting system
    • Plasma/energy
    • Cooling system
    • Rails
  • Hologram extending from the display screen (most likely in Photoshop)
  • Display screen design

Side note:
Thanks to my friend Gabe S. for his advice and critique along the way! https://www.instagram.com/gabestronaut/

Armor Detail Updates

Work In Progress / 30 July 2018
A few quick progress items - I added gloves, an abdomen armor piece, and I finished up the boots/shin/knee protectors:

I can't wait to see how all of this looks in PBR instead of flat color!

Armor WIP

Work In Progress / 27 July 2018

Hey guys! It's been a hot minute since my last update. My SSD crashed so I had to get all that replaced and running. But now that I'm back, I've been working on the armor/additional props for my sci-fi character.

There's still a good bit to be done, but I've definitely made some progress. Once all parts are completed, I will need to copy parts over from the opposite side, reduce edges, bake, texture, etc.

Here's some quick WIP shots:

Have a good one!

Suit Texture Painting Update

Texture painting update!

That's all I have for tonight, folks. :)

Suit Texture Painting

Work In Progress / 07 May 2018

Just a quick update - I started playing with the texture painting on the suit, including opacity, gradient transition, geometric pattern, and decals. I'm not 100% satisfied with the back portion yet, and it might be fun to try something on the shoulders. Otherwise, I'm trying to keep in mind that a good chunk of this will be covered in hard-surface armor, anyways! It would just be nice to show layers in the breakdown.

Definitely want to put this back on the character soon and do some test rendering in Marmoset. This week has been a little crazy as I've been house hunting and dealing with paperwork. Hope to have more time soon!

Sci-Fi Character

Work In Progress / 04 May 2018

In my free time (which has been very little as of late), I've been working through creating a female sci-fi character. The female base and the helmet have already been created:

Female Anatomy Study

Sci-Fi Helmet Model

Now, I've been working through creating a suit. The base was created Marvelous Designer, then re-topoed in Topogun, UVed in UVLayout, edited in ZBrush, baked in Marmoset, and is now being painted. I've collected a lot of reference, and plan to create hard-surface amor on top. I really want to focus on emphasizing anatomy:

I hope to add more details to the painted version soon. I want the arms and mid-section semi-transparent to show the anatomy of the female character. After I finish painting add model/texture hard-surface armor, I plan to learn more about Xgen to add realistic hair to my character. I would also like to work through a weapon for her to hold.

I am considering building out an environment for her, as I would like to get better with Unreal, tiling textures, and texture blending. Unity 2018 looks pretty promising as well, and at some point in the process, I want to teach myself more about Substance Designer!
